Star Wars Characters Give Good Direction

I do not have a Tom Tom so sadly I will never have Yoda give me bad directions. But at least I can see the video ads of the characters recording their lines for the device.

Enjoy.

Comic Review: DMZ

On the recommendation of the adorable comic shop girl, I picked up a new title several weeks ago. Its a Vertigo title and so far they have not done me wrong. This new book is called DMZ and its about a second civil war in the US in 2006. The story follows Matthew Roth, a photojournalist intern who gets stranded in the DMZ (which is Manhattan). He ends up staying there and reporting the everyday life of the people who either chose to stay in the DMZ or were trapped there when the borders were closed up. Its a very graphic book, but the writing is wonderful. I highly recommend picking this one up!

Raising the undead!

I have been terrible and neglected this site for a while. I have good reason, but still...excuses.

I happened to get a random invite to a new fashion community in beta testing. Its called Lookville and I have yet to check it out. I'll keep you updated on that once I have explored their content.

Today DJ Rox (aka Nicole) is flying in to Alaska! Our dynamic duo has been separated for a year and a half and I must say I am ecstatic to get to spend time with her. Sure its only a few days, but that is better than nothing.

In the meantime, I will be posting some TV & movie reviews soon. Stay tuned!

A First Plant Favorite

I just returned yesterday from a trip to Hawai'i. Specifically I was in Honolulu, on Waikiki. I enjoyed my first trip to Hawai'i immensely, although Waikiki was a little bit more large city and touristy than I expected. I knew there were large hotels and that Honolulu was a large city, but the streets along Waikiki reminded me more of the Vegas strip with the large, designer stores, bars, and people trying to sell you something every step of the way, than of the California beach towns I've visited before. I could go on and on about my entire trip but instead I'd rather share something I found that has a new place on my favorite list. And this is rare because it is a tree, and for those of you who know me know that I'm not exactly a plant person. But this tree is amazing. It is called a Banyan tree.

And at first look, it may look like an ordinary tree. But this tree actually sends down roots from its branches to hold the weight of the long horizontally growing limbs. So not only do these trees provide an immense amount of shady areas to lounge in, but also a great supply of nesting areas for birds. We saw many of them along Waikiki but apparently in Lahaina, HI one of these trees has grown to cover two-thirds of an acre.

Another interesting tree I found is the Royal Palm Tree. It grows fairly straight but gets wider and thiner in different areas.

New Comics

I recently returned from a mini-vacation in Fairbanks, where I was happy to fit in a visit to the comic shop. I asked the owner what new title I should be reading, mentioning the fact that I enjoy Y:the Last Man and Fables. He recommended 'The Unwritten' from Vertigo comics.

'The Unwritten' follows Tom Taylor, the abandoned son of a famous children's book author. Tom's father has written a very Harry Potter type series that follows the main character Tommy Taylor who is obviously fashioned around Tom. After Tom's fathers disappearance, Tom does the convention circuit, playing it off like he is the character from the books. This has its disadvantages though, as fans compare Tom too closely with the character Tommy.

Soon, a scandal develops, hinting that Tom is actually Tommy made real in the flesh. Tom must now search for his true identity and strive to make sense of his weird life. So far its a fun read.

What comics are you reading? Send me your suggestions on what I should pick up on my next visit to the comic shop!

Squirrel Girl!

In my quest to find the perfect super hero to dress up as for the San Diego Comic-con, I found this little gem; Squirrel Girl. She has heightened reflexes, retractable claws and knuckle spikes, a big fluffy tail, and she controls a squirrel army! You can't get much better than that. And check out those threads...stylish! I wonder how many squirrels it would take to make that leotard.

Comic Con!

So I have scored tickets for the San Diego Comic Con. Apparently the tickets sell out super fast and though the convention is in late July, tickets for Friday and Saturday have already sold out. I was able to get two tickets for Thursday. I'm super excited, but I have a dilemma.

Those who know me, know I LOVE to dress in costumes. I cannot pass up this opportunity to make something fun and not feel like a total outcast wearing. I'll be among my people! However, I have no idea what I should dress as. I have not been reading enough comics as of late so my inspiration is running low.

This is what I task to you, oh readers. What are your suggestions for me? Who should I dress as? Links to pictures are welcome!
