Nerd Love first arrived on the scene in the fall of 2007 as a weekly hour long radio show on KSUA in Fairbanks, Alaska. Initially the show was hosted by DJ Melarkie (a.k.a Melissa) and played music based on a central theme inspired by genres generally associated with “nerds”. In early 2008, Melarkie was joined by DJ Rox (a.k.a. Nicole) as her co-host. The format changed slightly, with more science-themed talk breaks and a wider variety of Indie music in addition to the theme-of-the-week.
The show went on hiatus at the end of summer in 2008, and the Nerd Love girls eventually departed Fairbanks for various destinations. Melarkie resurrected Nerd Love with DJ Riker and continued the show until late spring 2009. However, despite the show's eventual demise, Melarkie and Rox continue to spread the Nerd Love spirit through the Nerd <3 Girls blog.
